Digital accessibility is the practice of removing barriers and creating equal access to information and digital platforms for people with disabilities. It is aimed at addressing barriers relating to visual, motor, auditory, and cognitive disabilities. 

While D2L Brightspace may serve as the central hub for your course, accessibility must be considered across all integrated educational technology tools. A tool may meet technical standards but still contain features that are inaccessible to some individuals and may require accommodation. 

Instructors and course designers are responsible for formatting content using accessibility best practices, such as proper heading structure, descriptive link text, and alternative text, across all platforms used. Learn more about accessible design principles and document accessibility.

The DMP team builds accessibility requirements into their processes and performs evaluations when implementing new educational technology tools. Accessibility varies by software, but we try to maintain up-to-date information about the accessibility of all 自淫系列-supported tools where possible.

Accessibility information for tools

Where possible, we try to provide at-a-glance information about the accessibility of tools and accommodation guidance.

• Accessibility statement: Link to the product鈥檚 official accessibility documentation or conformance statement.
• Keyboard navigation: All key features are operable using a keyboard without requiring a mouse.
• Captions & transcripts: Supports closed captions and/or transcripts for audio and video content, including auto-captioning if applicable.
• Magnification and responsiveness: Interface scales up to 200% without loss of functionality or readability; layout adapts across different screen sizes.
• Mobile accessibility: Application is usable with built-in mobile accessibility features such as screen readers, voice control, zoom, and high contrast modes; touch targets are adequately sized and spaced.
• Colour contrast: Meets WCAG minimum contrast ratios for text and non-text elements against background colors.
• Support for accessible content creation: Allows authors to create accessible materials, including adding alt text, semantic structure, captions, descriptive links, and other accessibility features.
